​Colorguard Auditions

Congratulations on your interest in joining the Marching Grizzlies & the Grassfield Guard Program!  We pride ourselves on being one of the best colorguard and visual ensembles in Hampton Roads, with a longstanding tradition of excellence.  Belonging to the Grassfield Guard Program is earned.  It is earned not only through auditions, but every day in and out of rehearsal & throughout the off season.  Belonging to the
Grassfield Guard Program is a privilege.

This season will be full of new experiences, challenging crafting of technique, choreography, time spent with friends new & old, and most importantly—opportunities for you to grow & perform within the marching arts.  We expect you to do your best at all times, both as a member & as a performer.  We expect a readiness to learn and an eagerness to improve.  We know that if you meet our expectations, you will have an
outstanding season that you are proud of.   Carefully read all of the audition information so that you are prepared & ready to not only be successful, but ready to thrive and have a great season!

Audition Process

​​Auditions for the Grassfield Marching Grizzlies Colorguard Section will take place over three camp days in May: May 10, 17, and 24.  All students are highly encouraged to review the audition exercises before the first camp day, while returning members are required to know the audition exercises; Time will be allotted during auditions for instruction of movement and equipment basics.  All students are
required to complete the audition materials for the Colorguard Basics ensuring a solid foundation in movement and equipment technique. Those interested in auditioning for Weapon Line will have additional audition requirements, which will be detailed below. Early preparation, strong work ethic, and commitment to the process are essential for earning a spot in this year’s Grassfield Colorguard Program.

All prospective members should carefully read our fundamentals
packet, which explains the basic techniques used in the Grassfield Colorguard.  Prospective members will be expected to use techniques of Colorguard Basics in this packet during auditions.
